How it works

Each test uses the technique named in its title, gas chromatography or liquid chromatography, to separate the named compounds from the rest of the sample and measure them against reference standards. The lemon oil aldehydes are measured by titration and calculated as citral.

Essential oil specifications name single compounds or groups, so tell us which compounds and which basis yours uses.

Tests offered

Aldehydes in lemon oil by titration

Measures the total aldehydes in lemon oil by titration and calculates them as citral. USP describes lemon oil as the volatile oil expressed without heat from the fresh peel of Citrus x limon and states its total aldehyde content calculated as citral, with different ranges for California-type and Italian-type oil.

Aromatic substances in eucalyptus oil by GC

Measures the aromatic constituents of eucalyptus oil by gas chromatography. USP describes eucalyptus oil as steam-distilled from the fresh leaves or branchlets of Eucalyptus species rich in 1,8-cineole and states its eucalyptol (1,8-cineole) content. Tell us which constituents your specification names.

Menthol content by GC-FID

Measures menthol by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection. USP describes menthol as an alcohol obtained from mint oils or prepared synthetically, either levorotatory (l-menthol) or racemic (dl-menthol). The result is reported as menthol content; if your specification also requires the form to be confirmed, tell us and that is scoped separately.

Eugenol content by HPLC

Measures eugenol by HPLC as a single compound. USP describes clove oil as steam-distilled from the dried flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum, chiefly eugenol, and has a separate Eugenol monograph.

Beta-caryophyllene content by GC-FID

Measures beta-caryophyllene, a sesquiterpene, by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection as a single compound.

Terpenes content by GC-FID

Measures terpenes by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection. Tell us which terpenes your specification names and whether it states each one or a total.

Carvacrol and thymol content by HPLC

Measures carvacrol and thymol, two isomeric phenolic monoterpenes, together by HPLC and reports each.

Carvacrol content by HPLC

Measures carvacrol, a phenolic monoterpene, by HPLC as a single compound.

Thymol content by HPLC

Measures thymol, a phenolic monoterpene, by HPLC as a single compound.

Thymoquinone content by HPLC

Measures thymoquinone by HPLC as a single compound. Tell us the material, for example black seed oil.

Cinnamaldehyde content by HPLC

Measures cinnamaldehyde by HPLC as a single compound.

Vanillin content by HPLC

Measures vanillin by HPLC as a single compound. The result does not show whether the vanillin is natural or synthetic.

Ligustilide content by HPLC

Measures ligustilide, a phthalide, by HPLC as a single compound. Tell us the material.

Capsaicinoids content by HPLC

Measures capsaicinoids by HPLC. USP describes capsicum oleoresin as an alcoholic extract of the dried ripe fruits of Capsicum and calculates total capsaicinoids as the sum of capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin, nordihydrocapsaicin, nonivamide, decanylvanillinamide and homocapsaicin. Tell us whether your specification states the total or individual capsaicinoids.

Crocins and safranal content by UPLC

Measures crocins and safranal in saffron materials by UPLC and reports each against your specification.

Safranal content by UPLC

Measures safranal by UPLC as a single compound.

Delta-hexalactone content in coconut oil by GC-MS

Measures delta-hexalactone, a lactone flavor compound, in coconut oil by gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection.

Sending samples

Send the oil, extract or material in its original sealed container or another suitable closed container, labeled and protected from light and heat. We confirm sample requirements at quote.
