The HPLC tests separate the named cannabinoids and measure them against reference standards. Liquid chromatography can measure the acid forms (such as CBDA and THCA) separately from the neutral forms, because it does not use the heated inlet of gas chromatography, which converts acid forms; a total is then calculated from the measured forms. Sample preparation follows the procedure agreed at quote.
